Founded 1893
History
Located in the heart of Kitchener-Waterloo, a hotel has existed at 1 King Street in various forms since before 1820. Today’s Walper was constructed in 1893, with significant improvements in 1925 including additional guests floors and construction of the Crystal Ballroom.
Over the years, the Walper has been host to Prime Ministers, the Queen Mother, Eleanor Roosevelt, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Pierre Burton and James Brown.
The building was designated a historical landmark in 1983 and although significant renovations were completed over the last decade most of the original hotel remains intact.
